[17:34:45] I think I've got this "picking music to listen to" thing down this time [17:36:14] I say this every time but I don't think I'll be replacing my current picking-music-to-listen-to system [17:51:43] and what method would that be? [18:16:56] well, I start with a list of artists [18:17:20] each artist has a positive integer "degree" that starts at 0 [18:17:44] I do a stable sort on the list by degree [18:18:39] then pick out the first max(i_n/(n+1)) artists, where n is a possible degree and i_n is the number of artists with degree <= n [18:19:54] for each artist picked: I select one album by that artist and move the artist to the end of the list [18:21:16] albums are selected similarly, but I interrupt the process so that I only get one album by an artist at a time [18:23:08] degree of an album is (number of times I listened to the album and didn't like it)+int(log2(number of times I listened to the album and liked it+2))-1 [18:24:38] degree of an artist is the highest degree of any of the artist's albums currently picked [18:25:41] and I periodically add artists to the list that are similar to artists whose albums reach certain (number of times I listened to the album and liked it) counts [18:26:31] generally when it hits 2, 6, 14, 30.. [18:26:57] powers of 2 - 2
