Question: Anyone know if it's possible for a application running in Wine to interact with Dcop? dcop being ... * slipttees has quit ("Ex-Chat") Linux's Inter-processes communication similar to Window's GDI Zarin: technically yes, wine exports both unix and windows apis to the applications, but that would require the application to be compiled against winelib, I'm not sure if regular windows exes can do that Hmm man_in_shack: actually it's KDE specific Gentle, that's what i thought and since dcop is kde-specific, wine has no support for it and is likely to never have support for it man_in_shack: well, dbus is gnome but nowadays almost any linux apps aside from coreutils has support for it Hmm dbus may have been developed by gnome, but it's general-purpose afaik, dcop is rather heavily integrated into kde Just wondering since I know someone writting a Windows-only application but we are trying to make it work under Wine as well. It needs to be able to detect what media players are currently playing Zarin, that sorta thing would be very difficult man_in_shack: dcop is c++ while dbus is c, that's the main reason why dcop wasn't accepted as general purpose, C apps can't link against it man_in_shack, Yeah man_in_shack: as for kde4, dcop is a thin layer that uses dbus as backend, so yeah, dbus is now being used by all graphical systems Zarin, you COULD use linux-only api calls to do it, i'm sure :) in other words, Zarin might want to use dbus rather than dcop What about a Linux app that sends signals to the Windows app? Is doing that possible ooh, that sounds just as messy it is messy but possible the windows equivalent to system() on wine can either call exe files or unix binaries so you could call the dcop binar through system() on wine, but if you're developing that application anyway you can just as well compile it through winelib for linux which gains you the possibility to use both windows and linux apis at the same time So what do you mean by compiling against winelib? * Usurp|out (n=Usurp|ou@reactos/tester/Usurp) has joined #winehq Zarin: you can take some windows sourcecode and compile it with winegcc, the result is a binary that onl runs on linux and requires an installed wine version but technically is a linux binary The application is written in Delphi .NET I think tough luck, there is no winefpc wow, that's really horrible Zarin: that advanced method which would give you all the possibilities you'll ever need is only available to C/C++ coders * Usurp|out is now known as Usurp Zarin: note that Delphi .NET creates .NET binaries which WILL NOT run on wine Runs fine for me though... With some work arounds hi all I think Zarin: well, I have to clarify, if you don't set up anything it will create .NET binaries, you can make it compile regular windows binaries aswell if you tell it to do so Ah, it's Delphi win32 Not .NET could someone help with mailing list problems ? * Twigathy (n=Twigathy@raptor.ukc.ac.uk) has joined #winehq im getting this : Your membership in the mailing list wine-users has been disabled due to excessive bounces Zarin: you could always try to compile it with fpc, fpc these days has support for most of delphi's api
