The internet goliath Google Inc happens to be one of the more popular and large search engines, if not the largest and most popular; has a large and extensive history, and upon its creation it would change the computer world, and the world itself by providing users with a fast, efficient, and unique internet search experience, who’s availability is enormous and consumer base is vast. The word Google did not even become a word until very recently as of 2006, but the etymology of the word “Google” comes from a play of words on ‘googol’ which is the 1 with 100 zeros. The word ‘Google’ also can be used as a verb or a noun; for example, “I had googled the sentence fragment and it returned four million results in less than .37 seconds.” The name Google represents the infinite amount of information available to the world. Google created in 1995, was the internet child of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who are Stanford University Graduates of computer science. Larry and Sergey wanted to achieve finding relevant information out of a massive amount of data. Larry and Sergey started with a new collaboration called BackRub which analyzed back links leading to a website. After some time , Larry and Sergey were running out of money for their new project, after buying a terabyte or TB of memory, so they desperately needed an investor, and they eventually found him, and happened to be one of the founders of Sun Microsystems (eventually Java), Andy Becholsheim, who after receiving a demo, just wrote them a $100,000 check to Google Inc, but that did not exist as of that date, so they had to keep the check until the company was incorporated, and after that brought in about one million dollars in investments. The duo opened up in Menlo Park, California; then grew to their current headquarters in Palo Alto California, soon Google began to ‘boom’. Google today and in the past five years have been expanding with new features and new sub domains, and innovations. The search engine offers languages from Albanian to Zulu, and features from the default Google Search to Google Groups. The most popular features include Google Earth/Maps, Google Mail, Google Finance, iGoogle, and the most popular Google Images. The services Google offers is available to people all over the world, and has a incalculable consumer base. The ad systems and other systems also prove Google to be one of the most innovative and consumer oriented corporations in modern time. Google also provides a unique corporate style, incorporating comfort and style into their great company benefits to their employees, and has been called the best companies to work for, by CNN. Google also offers applications such as Google Earth, Google Desktop, and Google Applications, Google could be regarded as a financially sound or possibly a successful company, due to its fairly stable consumer base, because it is one of the most used search engines. The stocks of Google are currently around $475 US, and don’t really fluctuate much down, but sometimes rise. The company Google itself is actually a large company, that has locations in many countries, and is spreading to more countries such as China, which is one of Google’s emerging markets, with a population of over a billion and an ever increasing amounts of internet traffic, which brings in more searches, in more languages, bringing more people and information together. Google currently has to compete with companies such as Yahoo, MSN, and regional search engines such as Baidu; which is a Chinese based internet search engine that most Chinese internet users use as a search engine. Google soon will have more features, reach more people, and become more popular; the market for internet search engines rise, as the numbers of people using the internet increases, and the numbers of computer access and internet access increases so does Google’s internet traffic. Google’s financial success will depend on new markets, features, and information. From the garage of Menlo Park, California; to Asia Google is growing, and is a major part of our every day lives. Google is expanding its services and its customers each and every day, only with competitors such as Yahoo and Baidu stepping in the way. Starting from a 100 thousand dollar investment to scraping in millions and reaching the trillions in profits.
